STUDENTS’ UNION FOOTBALL LEAGUE REACHES MATCH DAY 2

The Office of the Director of Sports of the Students’ Union of OAU began a 
football league which as at the period of this report has 
reached its match day 2. The football premier league encompasses all the
 8 halls of residence with 4 male halls and 4 female halls.<br />

<br />

The league was designed to have the female league and the male 
league. Football pitches of the halls of residence is to be used for the
 matches. Each team has the opportunity of a home as well as away match 
with other halls.<br />

As at Match day 2, the league table has ETF hall on top with 6 
points, Fajuyi Hall and Awolowo Hall with 3 points each and Angola Hall 
with 0 point<br />

Portugal legend Luis Figo is the latest shock candidate to run for FIFA presidency.<br />

The former Real Madrid and Barcelona star says that he is determined to
 change an organisation that he says is too often associated with 
"scandal".<br />

As a result, he is hoping to stand against Sepp 
Blatter for the role in the upcoming elections - and it is thought he 
has secured the required backing of five FIFA member associations.<br />
<br />
The 42-year-old would become the most recognisable football face to 
challenge Blatter, after his distinguished 20-year playing career, and 
represents a serious blow to the Swiss' 17-year hold on the game's top 
job.<br />

The two-time world player of the year revealed that he 
cared about the game and wanted to change the worldwide perception of 
FIFA, which he believes is marred in controversy at the moment.<br />

Speaking to CNN, he said: "I care about football, so what I'm seeing 
regarding the image of FIFA - not only now but in the past years - I

have to change first and try to improve the image of FIFA. Football 
deserves much better than this.<br />

"I've been talking with so many

Goodluck Jonathan campaign on Monday reacted angrily to the criticism by the
former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN governor, Chukwuma Soludo, that his administration
failed woefully in its handling of the country’s economy.<br />
In his widely publicized assessment of President Jonathan’s handling of the country’s
economy in the past five years, Mr. Soludo, gave the administration an ‘F’
grade in the management of the economy, describing it as the worst in Nigeria’s
political history.<br />
But in its reaction, Mr. Jonathan’s campaign, the Goodluck Jonathan Presidential
Campaign<br />
Organisation, PCO, dismissed the former CBN governor as a confused Nigerian,
who has lost touch with the reality of his country.<br />
A statement by the spokesperson for the campaign, Femi Fani- Kayode, said
contrary to Mr. Soludo’s wish that Mr. Jonathan withdraws, he would not only
run next month, but would win his re-election.<br />
“To say that the President should not run in this election and that he should throw
in the towel is absurd and self-depreciating,” he said. “It is a manifestation
of the morbid fear of failure and defeat that the leaders of the opposition are
all suffering from.<br />
“Whether Soludo and his friends like it or not, not only will President
Goodluck Jonathan run in this election, but he will also win and he will do so
convincingly,” he said.<br />
According to Mr. Fani-Kayode, he could forgive Mr. Soludo for suggesting the President’s
withdrawal from the race, saying there was no doubt that he no longer
understood what were on ground, having spent much time hanging around the
opposition’s camp in the All Progressives Congress, APC.<br />
“I read Charles Soludu’s contribution to the debate with amusement. I will be gentle
with him because I have a soft spot for him. He has criticized the President,
his government and his handling of the economy,” Mr. Fani- Kayode said.<br />
In spite of the criticism, the former aviation minister said Nigeria recently won
the award for being the largest economy in Africa, which happened under
President Jonathan, questioning whether any right-thinking person who has the
nation’s interest at heart would<br />
complain about that.<br />
“Mr. Soludo is confused and conflicted. He seems to have lost touch with
reality and this is what often happens when you spend too much time with the
Buharists.<br />
“The truth is that Soludo is far too educated, civilized and advanced to be in
the opposition. He belongs to the modern age and not the dark ages. I pray that
sooner than later he comes to his senses and he sees the light.<br />
“One thousand Muhammadu Buhari cannot match one Goodluck Jonathan in terms of tolerance,
compassion, performance or output. Buhari cannot even begin to understand the
complex nature of the economy, or the immense problems that we are facing in
this country, whilst Jonathan not only understands them, but is also making a
gallant effort at solving them.<br />
According to Mr. Fani-Kayode, “Mr. Soludo got it wrong on his assessment of President
Goodluck Jonathan, pointing out that he acted in error and needed to “sit up,
reconsider his views and review his unsavoury and disrespectful contribution.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>

Durban - Earlier this week a video showing well renowned
pastor and popular motivational<br />
speaker in South Africa, Sthembiso Zondo in the nude, went viral on social
media.<br />
The recorded video, taken by a woman sitting in front of him, shows the
unmarried Pastor Zondo<br />
talking on his phone, while pacing up and down around the lounge in front of a
woman sitting on<br />
a couch, the video shows the pastor wearing nothing, using his hand to rub his
penis, twice.<br />
Divorced Zondo is the founder and senior pastor of Soul Renaissance Ministries
Durban, South<br />
Africa, established in 2001. He also founded Zero-to-Hero, an NGO whose
objective is to preach the<br />
gospel of hope.<br />
This is indeed a very sad story seeing that Pastor Zondo influences millions of
people and is ranked<br />
as one of the most influential pastors in South Africa. The new rockstars in
town are definitely<br />
pastors, they command respect, attention, drive state-of-the art cars, they are
always on TV and<br />
radio and wear designer clothes.<br />
One statistic in a book shows that 33% of pastors have crossed the line with a
woman not their<br />
spouse but have not been caught. That is an alarming number. More and more
pastors are<br />
cheating on God and cheating on their spouses –married and unmarried.<br />
A lot of people commenting on social media about pastor Zondo’s issue didn’t
see anything wrong<br />
with his action insisting that the notion of thou shall not “judge the man of
God”, while some are<br />
asking him to step away from being a pastor and speaker because he has broken
ranks from his<br />
godly office. Taking from the scene and mood of the 37 seconds video it looks
like the woman is<br />
his sexual partner. Even if she’s not (highly unlikely), the question remains,
why was he<br />
parading himself naked in front of a woman? So why do male pastors cheat on
their wives or<br />
fornicate though unmarried? Some have many girlfriends with no shame. Though a
lot is<br />
expected of a deacon, elder, or pastor, “it seems that cheating has become the
new normal, the<br />
new cool perhaps”<br />
The truth is that most pastors are ordinary feeble men and are prone to like
every man to be<br />
vulnerable to sexual attraction. There is no difference between pastors and
other ordinary<br />
men. Pastors commit sexual sin for the same reason people who are not pastors
do. What is<br />
that? Well, it consist of different reasons ranging from the abuse of influence
to temptations,<br />
vulnerable needs and weaknesses.<br />
Pastors engage in sexual sins because we allow them. We keep quiet when we find
out that a<br />
pastor is cheating on his wife or in sexual association with another woman
though he’s<br />
unmarried. We misuse phrases from the bible like “who are you to judge”, “touch
not the Lord’s<br />
anointed” and “him who is without sin cast the first stone”. What rubbish!<br />
Some women are the reason why pastors cheat and have sexual encounters. They
devalue<br />
themselves and offer their vagina to these fraudulent men of God, thinking it
would increase<br />
God’s blessings in their lives and upgrade their social and spiritual status.
That’s a lie from hell.<br />
Women selling themselves cheap encourage pastors to satisfy their lustful
pleasure with<br />
whoever, whenever. I know so many single pastors who are dating multiple women,
some are<br />
aware of it and still hang around them. Run baby!<br />
Also, sometimes married pastors are bored with their wives and vulnerable to
“something<br />
different.” But some cheaters have great wives and are not bored. So, this is
no answer. Some<br />
single pastors just don’t want to commit to their girlfriends or one woman.
They ride on the<br />
attention and influence they have over vulnerable women in the church<br />
Certain pastors think they are stronger than they are. But they are not – we
all are not. Don’t<br />
believe your hype, your office as a pastor does not make you immune to
temptations and sin. I<br />
have heard of a Congolese pastor based in Johannesburg pastoring a mega church
in<br />
Midrand who uses every opportunity to lure young women into satisfying his
sexual passions. He<br />
still prides himself as a miracle maker. We all need help. We need a community
of faith,<br />
mentors, friends, family and a net to fall into.<br />
Furthermore, pastors feel they are in love with the sexual partner and justify
it as “what I’ve been<br />
searching for all my life.” But they are just as likely to know going in that
this is temporary,<br />
shallow, one-dimensional, and its trouble, yet they still do it. This is no
answer.<br />
Bottom line is pastors cheat and engage in fornication because just like us, we
are all sinners<br />
in need of grace daily. They allow their relationship with God to get to a
broken state. They get weak and don’t reach out for help. I stayed away from
sex before marriage for 15<br />
years, before then I was promiscuous. And now that I am married, I’ve made a
decision to rather<br />
die than cheat on my wife. How about you? Only God can help us, but it’s
possible!<br />
Fornication and sex destroys us inside-out, don’t fool around.<br />
So if you are Pastor Zondo, what would you say to your congregation this
Sunday? The devil made me do it? Pastors are sinners too. Pray for your pastor.<o:p></o:p></div>

Joseph Mbu, outgoing AIG Zone 7, has promised to respond to
allegations by the APC that he was deployed to Zone 2 for a political hatchet
job at the appropriate time. Mr. Mbu made the remark<br />
in Abuja on Friday while reacting to question during an interaction with
journalists. Zone 2 comprises Lagos and Ogun states.<br />
It would be recalled that Joe Igbokwe, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Lagos
state, made the<br />
allegation on January 20 after Mr. Mbu was deployed to the zone. Twenty-seven
AIGs were<br />
redeployed to other zones, departments and formations across the country.<br />
“I reserve my comment on the spurious allegation by the APC in Lagos state; I
will not say APC in general”<br />
“At the appropriate time, I will respond to this allegation.<br />
“I am not going to Lagos to fight but I will not tolerate lawlessness,” he
said.<br />
Mr. Mbu also dismissed insinuation that he was a controversial officer, saying<br />
he is not controversial.<br />
“I love my job, I am very proud of my job and I do my job very, very well. I am
not afraid of anybody in the execution of my job.<br />
“Anywhere I go, I am not a politician, the enemy of – – , governor is not my
enemy, any of the minister is not my enemy, the enemy of anybody is not my enemy,’’
he said.<br />
Mr. Mbu said anywhere he was posted; he would do his job professionally, adding

is a major route to the venue of the APC presidential campaign rally.<br />

Democratic Party, PDP, has dismissed the statement of result released by the
Government College Katsina, as the University of Cambridge West African Schools
Certificate results of Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the<br />
All Progressives Congress, APC. At a media briefing Thursday, the PDP said the document
released Wednesday by the school was “forged, manipulated and fraudulently
procured”.<br />
The Katsina College released the two documents amid intense controversy over
Mr. Buhari’s academic qualification as required by the Constitution for a presidential
election candidate.<br />
Read below, the PDP’s full statement released by Femi Fani-Kayode, the director
media, Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization.<br />
“Gentlemen of the Press, Yesterday, 21st of January, 2014, the Presidential
candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Gen Muhammadu Buhari addressed a
Press Conference where he attempted to explain the series of controversies surrounding
his academic qualifications especially the Secondary School Certificate.<br />
Again, the APC candidate, rather than provide a conclusive proof that he
possesses this minimum qualification, went into a session of blame game and shifting
of what ordinarily ought to be his personal responsibility as he said and I
quote “I have formally requested my old school, Provisional Secondary School Katsina,
which is now known as Government College, Katsina, to make available the
Schools copy of the result of the Cambridge West African Schools Certificate.”<br />

unfortunate that the more Gen Buhari tries to extricate himself from the
crisis, the more he stumbles into a new phase in the unfolding narrative of his
obvious complicity in a matter that borders on perjury and which has called his
avowed integrity to question. It is quite unfortunate that a few hours after
Gen Buhari’s Press conference, some documents appeared on various Media
platforms purporting to be the APC candidate’s results released by his old
school.Having carefully studied the statement of Result signed by the “school
principal” and an “examination officer” of the Government College, Katsina, as
well as the attached document titled University of Cambridge West Africa School
Certificate 1961, we wish to make the following observations and comments:<br />

results sheet which was attributed to the Cambridge examination body is clearly
a super imposition of one document on another as you will shortly see in the
enlarged image of the result sheet as published. The column lines on the part
where names are printed do not align with the blank columns while there is an
introduction of extraneous lines on some other columns. The document contains
an obvious alteration on the Mathematics column of the candidate, Mohamed
Buhari, who was assumed to have scored an “F” in the subject. This raises a
very fundamental issue of validity in view of the fact that the accompanying
result<br />
sheet states that “any alteration or erasure renders this statement of Results invalid.”
This is the standard practice in all interpretation of documents especially
academic records. The<br />
question we put to Gen Buhari and his party is whether this alteration was done
by the University of Cambridge. One of the footnotes on the document purportedly
issued by the University of Cambridge says “the results of this candidate in
all subjects except English Language have been carried forward from the 1960
examination.” The question arising from this is: When exactly did Buhari sit
for all the other subjects claimed to have been passed in the Secondary School
Examination? Our conclusion from all these is that the documents purportedly
released by Government College (Pilot) Katsina, upon which the APC Presidential
candidate hopes to bury the doubt about his eligibility for next month’s
election are forged, manipulated and fraudulently procured. They are therefore
untenable in fact and in law. We do not know who the authors and masterminds of
this forgery are but whoever they are, we urge them to come forward and be
identified. If they fail to come forward voluntarily, we hereby call on the
Police and other security Agencies to seek them out, find them, arrest them,
interrogate them and prosecute them in accordance with the laws of the land.<br />

of Love is only the sixth studio album the band Sade have released during their
25 year career, and the first since Lovers Rock in 2000. For Sade herself, as
the lynchpin of the group's song writing effort, it's a simple matter of
integrity and authenticity. "I only make records when I feel I have
something to say. I'm not interested in releasing music just for the sake of
selling something. Sade is not a brand." <br />

The call went out in 2008 for the group to re-convene at Peter Gabriel's Real
World studio, near Sade's home in the countryside of south west England. It was
the first time the four principals had met up since the Lovers Rock tour
wrapped in 2001. Bassist Paul Denman de-camped from Los Angeles, where he had
been managing his teenage son's punk band, Orange. Guitarist and sax player
Stuart Matthewman interrupted his film soundtrack work in New York, and
keyboardist Andrew Hale gave up his A&R consultancy. <br />
<br />
<br />
In a series of fortnightly sessions at Real World, Sade sketched out the
material for a new album which, they all felt, was probably their most
ambitious to date. In particular, the sonic layering and martial beats of the
title track, Soldier Of Love, sounded quite different from anything they had
previously recorded. According to Andrew Hale: "The big question for all
of us at the beginning was, did we still want to do this and could we still get
along as friends?" The answer soon came back as a passionate affirmative. <br />
<br />
<br />
The album was completed in the summer of 2009, mainly at Real World. The feel
of the music this time had moved away from the old country soul styling of
Lovers Rock and assumed a more eclectic identity. At times the band sounded
like the original Sade, with Matthewman back blowing soft sax on In Another
Time and the vocal on Long Hard Road hymning. But with songs such as the
joyously quirky reggae chant Babyfather, and the dramatically arranged album
opener The Moon and the Sky, Sade were exploring new territory. "I never
want to repeat myself," Sade herself says. "And that becomes a more
interesting challenge for us the longer we carry on together." <br />

<br />
Helen Folasade Adu was born in Ibadan, Nigeria. Her father was Nigerian, a
university teacher of economics; her mother Anne was an English nurse. The
couple met in London while he was studying at the LSE and moved to Nigeria
shortly after getting married. When their daughter was born, nobody locally was
prepared to call her by her English name, and a shortened version of Folasade
stuck. Then, when she was four, her parents separated, and her mother brought
Sade and her elder brother Banji back to England, where they initially lived
with their grandparents just outside Colchester, Essex. <br />
<br />
<br />
She listened to American soul music, particularly the wave led in the 1970's by
artists such as Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, and Bill Withers. As a
teenager, she saw the Jackson 5 at the Rainbow theatre in Finsbury Park, where
she worked behind the bar at weekends. "I was more fascinated by the
audience than by anything that was going on on the stage. They'd attracted
kids, mothers with children, old people, white, black. I was really moved.
That's the audience I've always aimed for." <br />

<br />
Music was not her first choice as a career. She studied fashion at St Martin's
School Of Art and only began singing after two old school friends with a
fledgling group approached her to help them out with the vocals. <br />
<br />
<br />
Somewhat to her surprise, she found that while the singing made her nervous,
she enjoyed writing songs. Two years later she had overcome her stage fright
and was regularly singing back up with a North London Latin funk band called
Pride. "I used to get on stage with Pride, like, shaking. I was terrified.
But I was determined to try my best, and I decided that if I was going to sing,
I would sing the way I speak, because it's important to be yourself." <br />

1981, she and the other seven members of the band toured the UK, often with her
driving. Pride's shows featured a segment in which Sade fronted a quartet that
played quieter, jazzier numbers. One of these, a song called Smooth Operator,
which Sade had co-written herself, attracted the attention of record company
talent scouts. Soon, everybody wanted to sign her, but not the rest of Pride.
Obstinately loyal to her friends in the group, Sade refused to depart. 18
months later she relented and signed to Epic records - on condition that she
took with her the three band mates who still comprise the entity known as Sade:
saxophonist Stuart Matthewman, keyboard player Andrew Hale, and bassist Paul
Denman. <br />

Sade's first single, Your Love Is King, became a top 10 British hit in February
1984, and with that her life, and that of the band, changed forever. The
unstressed, understated elegance of the music in conjunction with her look -
unspecifically exotic and effortlessly sophisticated - launched Sade as the
female face of the style decade. Magazines queued to put her on the cover.
"It wasn't marketing," she says, wearily. "It was just me. And I
wasn't trying to promote an image." <br />

At the time of her first album, Diamond Life, her actual life was anything but
diamond-like. Sade was living in a converted fire station in Finsbury Park with
her then boyfriend, the style journalist Robert Elms. There was no heating,
which meant that she had to get dressed in bed. The loo, which used to ice over
in winter, was on the fire escape. The bath was in the kitchen. "We were
freezing, basically." For the remainder of the 1980's, as the first three
albums sold by the million around the world, Sade toured more or less
constantly. For her this remains a point of principle. "If you just do TV
or video then you become a tool of the record industry. All you're doing is
selling a product. It's when I get on stage with the band and we play that I
know that people love the music. I can feel it. Sometimes I yearn to be on the
road. The feeling overwhelms me." <br />
Intrusive media interest in her private life has inspired a continuing
reluctance on her part to participate in the promotional game. Having been
travestied in print on many occasions, Sade rarely gives interviews. "It's
terrible this Fleet Street mentality that if something seems simple and easy,
there must be something funny going on." <br />

For most of the past 20 years, Sade has prioritised her personal life over her
professional career, releasing only three studio albums of new material during
that period. Her marriage to the Spanish film director Carlos Scola Pliego in
1989; the birth of her daughter in 1996 and her early 21st century move from
North London to rural Gloucestershire, where she now lives with a new partner,
have consumed much of her time and attention. And quite rightly so. "You
can only grow as an artist as long as you allow yourself the time to grow as a
person," Sade says. "We're all parents, our lives have all moved on.
I couldn't have made Soldier of Love any time before now, and though it's been
a long wait for the fans - and I am sorry about that - I'm incredibly proud of

arrested for raping a primary six pupil, and damaging her private parts, on
Mommoh Street in the Agege area of Lagos State.<br />
Benson, an old chronic bachelor, was also reported to have repeatedly raped the
14-year old pupil, not minding the fact blood was gushing out of her private
part and when he was down, he sent her out of his room.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

saw blood coming out of her private parts. I raised the alarm and when other
people arrived at the scene, she said it was Segun that raped her.” One of the
victim’s relative, Okunloye Kehinde, reported that her private parts were badly
damaged, “I got a call around 2pm that fateful Saturday. When I got there, I
saw a crowd of people around her. I saw a container filled with blood. Even her
clothes were drenched in blood.” Kehinde further said he went with the victim’s
father to report the incident at the Elere Police Division and the police
swooped into action and arrested the culprit. The girl spoke to Punch Newspaper
on her hospital bed, “I am in primary six. On Friday, he (Segun) gave me N50 to
buy sweet for myself. He then asked me to caress his private parts. When I told
him I would tell my daddy, he said I should not go home.” “He took me to his
house around Railway Line where he raped me. I was there from 3pm till around
7pm. I started bleeding from his house and when I got home, the blood did not
stop. But I kept it secret until Saturday when people saw it.” -<o:p></o:p></span></div>
